Lightning-Native Ad Network Concept

Core Idea

A scarcity-based, time-dependent, Lightning-native attention marketplace where advertisers fund visibility on your site(s) via direct, verifiable donations to charity. This system differentiates from traditional ad networks by limiting positions, simplifying creative requirements, and enabling streaming payments.

Ad Unit Design

  • Fixed Positions: Only a small number of positions per page (e.g., 2 per page), no clutter.
  • Fixed Dimensions: Single image per ad; no complex responsive assets.
  • Unit-Based Allocation: Each position has a set number of units (e.g., 10). Advertisers can purchase any number of units:
    • 1 unit = fraction of rotation
    • All units = full control of position
  • Time-Dependent Slots: Duration or streaming-based; availability changes in real time.
  • Queue System: Rotates multiple advertisers per position according to unit share.

Workflow

1. Selection (Reservation)

  • Advertiser uploads image, adds link, selects:
    • Position
    • Number of units
    • Duration (or streaming)
    • Charity recipient
  • System calculates required sats
  • Creates a temporary reservation (e.g., 10 minutes) to prevent race conditions
  • Reservation locks units; units unavailable to others

2. Approval

  • Ad reviewed for:
    • Compliance with guidelines
    • Image clarity and dimensions
    • Safe links
    • Verified charity recipient
  • If rejected → reservation released immediately
  • If approved → invoice generated

3. Payment

  • Payment flows directly to the charity via Coinos API (read-only, platform has no withdrawal access)
  • System watches for settlement
  • On successful payment → campaign marked as funded and active
  • If payment not made in reservation window → units released

Streaming Payments (Optional)

  • Advertiser streams sats to charity at chosen rate
  • Ad remains active while balance > threshold
  • When balance runs out → units freed dynamically
  • Backend uses same allocation logic; expiration handled differently from fixed-duration campaigns

Technical & UX Notes

  • Database-Level Locks: Ensure atomic allocation when multiple advertisers try to reserve the same units
  • Reservation Expiry: Background job releases expired reservations automatically
  • Queue Transparency: Show available units and reserved units to increase urgency and clarity
  • Governance: Publish ad guidelines and rejection reasons publicly; optional appeals
  • Transparency Advantage: Because platform never holds funds, trust and regulatory risk are minimized
  • Optional Display: Show “Sponsored by donation of X sats to [Project]” to enhance prestige

Strategic Positioning

  • Advertisers are leasing attention, not buying traffic
  • Donations are verifiable and peer-to-peer
  • Platform acts as an attention allocator, not a fund custodian
  • Scarcity, transparency, and streaming mechanics differentiate it from typical crypto ad networks

Summary

This system is essentially a:

“Time-weighted, programmable attention leasing marketplace, funded by direct, verifiable Lightning donations.”

  • Small, scarce inventory → predictable attention
  • Units allocated dynamically → fair rotation
  • Approval-before-payment → preserves quality
  • Optional streaming → flexible micro-donations

It’s architecturally clean, trust-aligned, and scalable to multi-site integration.

Additions and changes

Expiration Cleanup

You’ll need a small background job:

Every minute:

  • Find reservations where expires_at < now
  • Release units
  • Mark status = expired

Simple cron job.

But if we had a text file with all the expiration dates listed, each time someone pays for an ad, the ad ref gets added to the list, and when one expires, it gets removed, so we only need to check the list, not all the ads. Maybe that’s not a big difference, though.

Below Is Redundant

Advertise our own pages, our reflinks, and anything else of benefit to the network on all the sites. Visitors can also support charity by advertising.

Ads To Make

  • Presearch (use https://youtu.be/rHHYql5Vsmk)
  • Heatbit
  • alexamaster – referrals too, to send users to the site. Ref commission plus can send users with their own credits too. Here is the page to make an ad unit.

Advertisers and Partners

We will have advertising slots available at very reasonable rates. Instead of paying a company or organization, your remittance goes straight to one of our recipients or to a fundraiser for the things they need to complete their projects.

How It Works

For example, a part-time project worker on the tree nursery of our Badilisha project needs $50 a month to free up their time to do the work. So one ad location will be allocated to this recipient. The ad itself will be split into 5 slots at $10 each, and each slot will be displayed randomly so each advertiser gets an equal amount of views. You can buy as many of those slots as you like; obviously, all of them would mean your ad will display permanently.

When the site gets busy, we will list all the ad slots here and which pages and positions they will appear on. Initially there will only be 2 so that you’ll still get good value, as they will show across all pages and posts.

How To Pay

It’s easy; even if you don’t know anything about Bitcoin, we can guide you through it. You can even use exchanges with a regular amount sent automatically from your bank account, and they will send you bitcoin over the Lightning Network with almost zero fees (a couple of cents).

More details to follow, but please use the contact form on the homepage if you want to get in early. (It says it’s to apply to join the site, but you can use it for anything.)
