WordPress Site — Development Plan & Tool Overview

Setup

The site is built on WordPress, chosen so the client can write and manage posts and pages himself through the standard WP admin interface. Development and theme/plugin work is handled separately by the developer.

Development Tools

Work is done using an AI-assisted IDE (Windsurf or Google Antigravity), with Claude as the AI model. These tools connect to the live server via SSH, allowing direct editing of theme files, configuration, and other server-side files with developer oversight.

Hosting & Server Access

  • Hosted on a DirectAdmin account
  • SSH access available for development work
  • No local mirror planned — work is done directly on the live server
  • Hosting cost is minimal; budget is being kept lean and proportionate throughout

Backups

A backup plugin is in place. A manual backup should be run before any significant development session. This is sufficient for the scope of work planned.

Theme

Kadence (free)—now replaced. It was the theme being used. It avoids the need for a heavy page builder while still providing good design control. It’s well suited to a straightforward professional site. The free version is sufficient for this project — Kadence Pro is not required.

Serazi (custom theme) Kadence has been replaced by our own theme (May 2026, in development) called the Serazi Theme. It’s a lightweight custom theme tailored exactly to the site’s needs, with AI assistance. This would eliminate ongoing theme costs and any unnecessary bloat entirely.

Booking System

We have our own custom booking systme. It’s well-suited to a medical/professional context and handles the following:

  • Multiple Locations
  • Email reminders to patients and staff
  • A professional-looking front-end booking interface
  • Square payment integration built in

For Ireland specifically, Square is actually competitive or cheaper than Stripe for online payments. For online payments in Ireland, Square charges 1.4% + 25c + VAT for EU/EEA cards — which for Irish patients paying with Irish cards is significantly better than Stripe’s 2.9% + 30c.

So on a €100 booking deposit, Square would cost around €1.65 vs Stripe’s €3.20. That’s actually a meaningful difference if one is taking deposits regularly.

  1. Run a full backup before starting work

  6. Test the booking flow end-to-end before go-live
