Irish Wildlife Society

Instead of sending money to a NGO, which then spends loads on a board and staff and offices and admin…

  • Members pay nothing at first; they just commit to paying monthly (e.g.) 25 euro shares.
  • Each share gives the user a right to visit and a nominal piece of the land.
  • Shareholders get timeshare on the holiday chalets located there
  • They can be used by the shareholders themselves or rented out.
  • For rented land, members send via direct debit to the landowner.

Each parcel of land is its own entity and runs independently of the others. Members run it themselves, within the society’s rules. An example to base things on (on the ground) is given by Wild Ireland. However, it’s only open to the members of that particular project and anyone renting the time from them, not to the public.

Rough calculation (based on renting, though loans to buy and own the land is another method). (using $ for EUR cos this stupid system wont do the euro symbol.)

$300 per acre per year
$25 per person per month gives 1 acre each. So if we find a 50-acre plot, we need 50 shares.

Each share can also pay $5 per month to buy and set up some glamping-type structures. Those who do will own a timeshare on them. Different times of year will be different amounts of time, with a unit being (e.g.) longer in winter than in summer.
