Free Domain Names

Running a TLD costs a fortune and has physical infrastructure requirements so its not a practical aim right now. But if enough people get on board, we can have an organisation like what freenom.com could have been but wasn’t. Till then I will keep the name to myself. here is the full list.

At the time of writing, there doesn’t seem to be anyone giving free domain names. There are plenty who offer “free” domain names when you sign up for web hosting with them, but pretty much all of them are either trying to lock you in to their services or will make sure they get the money back from you another way. Registering a domain incurs costs, which you must bear in one way or another.

Freenom.com used to offer free domains, but they were extremely unreliable and if your domain got even a little popular, they would demand money to renew it. They often revoked the free domain for no apparent reason or for a silly reason. Sure, they had to deal with the world’s worst low-life spammers and scammers but there were also a lot of normal people who were let down by them. They are still around sometimes, but usually their site is down or otherwise not working properly.

Subdomains.

So if you need a free domain to point to your free hosting, there are some places that will give you a free subdomain. It’s best not to get your subdomain or domain from the same people who are doing your web hosting, whether free or paid. If you own your domain separately from your hosting and subsequently have a dispute with your host, you can simply point your domain or subdomain to a new host without needing permission from the host you have a dispute with. It makes sense.

eu.org

eu.org is the longest-running and most reliable source of free subdomains. We set one up on: 2023-05-12 and it’s been available consistently since then. We therefore recommend this service.
