Social media notes.

We need a team to help promote ClickForCharity on social media. Unlike the big orgs, we don’t waste money on expensive advertising and “marketing” teams, because 100% of funds raised go directly to our recipients. So, we need to actually do the social media work ourselves. Orgs spend many thousands of dollars, in some cases millions, making it look as though they are popular in order to get people on board.

Here are some tips (they are specifically for Nostr but apply generally too):

  1. When you join Nostr, you might think, “This is hopeless; the posts are all nonsense,” or something like that. If you do, great! That means that you can improve it right away by posting good content! The big thing about social media is that we’re free from the old concept of being passively “entertained.” We are equal owners of Nostr. We make the content ourselves.
  2. Don’t be afraid to post stuff. There’s no boss there, and everyone is your equal, so they may approve or disapprove; it’s ultimately up to them, and they can block your posts if they don’t like them, so there’s no need to worry about complainers and naysayers.
  3. It’s “social” media, not a certain user’s media, so if someone tells you that this is not the right place for cat memes, you can safely ignore them, and if they become a nuisance, you can block them.

General Ideas

  • Behave like normal; don’t just go to our posts and only interact with them.
  • Make sure to find some others to upvote and follow, not just our own little team! We can benefit the platform as well as ourselves.
  • The purpose is to get followers so that they will see your posts and things you repost.
  • Most sites have “trending” or “popular” sections where they promote the most “popular” posts. It’s a terrible idea, really, but it’s there so it can either help us or hinder us in getting seen. We can’t avoid it. Upvotes and followers help with that, so that’s our aim.

Specific Items

  • Look for posts you like and give them an upvote.
  • If you see something that makes you think of a reply that will make the poster feel good about having posted it, then make the comment. This also helps the platform to grow, so it’s doubly good.
  • Think of a subject or topic that you are interested in and have knowledge about, something about which you can find interesting or funny things to post. If you like cooking, for example, you could find good recipes or have some of your own and add a sentence or two about what is special about them.
  • Sometimes, but not all the time, you can then intersperse your posts with a link to an article on the site or mention some tasks you did there and why it is useful to do so.
  • We can practice sending and receiving sats on Nostr, which will help to show people that others appreciate our posts too.
