webdav and apache installation details here
Above has a link to a page for SSL, but this one is for Certbot, so it’s probably better.

SSL/TLS installed and now its broken.

Website Backups

OpenStack Swift may be worth looking at, as Updraft WordPress Backup includes it as an option for backup in its free level. The other options (apart from what we’re using already) are stupidly obscured proprietary nonsense.

Below Is Redundant

[edit 2025-04]
Idrive was ok, but then I found that it had not been backing up for some months, for some reason. Support didn’t seem to think this was terrible; they said I had configured it wrong or something. But the deal breaker isn’t that it stopped working; it’s that the confirmation emails continued to come every day saying “backup successful.” So I am dumping them.

[for homelab] I’ve been using iDrive for a while for backing up local machines.

  • It works fine
  • has none of the foibles of “cloud sync.”
  • Doesn’t delete your stuff and then blame you (yes, that happens).
  • Is specifically for backup
  • Doesn’t cost an arm and a leg like most real backup services do.

I got an account with 500 GB of storage for €9.95 per year. We could get 5 computers and 5 users (5 TB) for $99.50/year, and there are reasonable additions to that should we need them.
