Proxmox

If I ever do need to set up VMs then linux already has a system built in, all I need is likely to be :

  • KVM/QEMU: The core technology where KVM provides the kernel module and QEMU handles hardware emulation.
  • virt-manager: The most common graphical user interface (GUI) for creating and managing KVM virtual machines.
  • GNOME Boxes: A simplified front-end for KVM/QEMU designed for quick testing and beginner use.
  • Proxmox VE: A dedicated bare-metal platform based on KVM for homelabs and small data centers.

Unlike Type 2 hypervisors like VirtualBox or VMware Workstation, which run as applications on top of an operating system, KVM operates at the kernel level, offering superior efficiency for server environments and production workloads.

Try proxmox to get an idea of creating VMs

This one looks like it may work.

Also there is proxmox automation via Terraform:
